Speech Pathology Australia (SPA) is recognised as the professional body for Speech Pathologist in Australia. Most employers require applicants to be at least eligible for membership of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia. It is a legal requirement in Queensland to register with the Speech Pathologist Board. Audiologists are able to be certified for clinical practice (CCP) through the Audiology Society of Australia. Overseas trained Speech Pathologists can have their qualifications assessed by the Overseas Qualifications Committee of SPA to determine if they are eligible for membership. For information and forms visit the Speech Pathology Australia website. Mutual Recognition AgreementAs of the 1st January 2005 a mutual recognition agreement of credentials came into force between SPA, The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), The Canadian Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (CASLPA) and the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). This agreement is mutual recognition that the four associations have substantially equivalent credentials so it is then possible that certified members of one association can be recognised by the others.
