Social Work – Working in the UK & Ireland

Working as a social worker in the UK presents several opportunities both professional and recreational. You’re able to enhance your career working across the National Health Service (NHS). Also, the UK, the whole of Europe and North Africa are at your feet to go on adventures on your time off.

Requirements to work in the UK:

•    Registration with the General Social Care Council (GSCC) is essential to work as a social worker in the UK.
•    12 months post graduate experience
•    Visa — Most Australians will need to have a visa in their passport in order to work in the UK. There are several types of visas including a Youth Mobility Visa, which allows you to work for 2 years, and an ancestry visa which provides a 5 year work visa if you have a grandparent born in the UK. •    Positions — RSG Australia has strong relationships with NHS preferred suppliers so we have a wide range of opportunities available to work in different areas of social work.
•    Where? The NHS is throughout the UK so there is the possibility to work anywhere in the UK from John O’ Groats to Land’s End.


General Social Care Council Registration in the UK

To register with the GSCC can take more than 16 weeks from their receipt of your application, so you’re advised to apply for GSCC registration early.

The registration fee in non refundable and has to be paid by cheque or bank draft in GBP Sterling.
