• All practicing doctors in the UK need to be registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) .To be registered with the GMC includes such steps as passing the Professional and Linguistics Assessment Board test and proving your identity. For more detailed information on registration go to the GMC website. • Visa — Most Australians will need to have a visa in their passport in order to work in the UK. There are several types of visas including a Youth Mobility Visa, which allows you to work for 2 years, and an ancestry visa which provides a 5 year work visa if you have a grandparent born in the UK. As doctors are in demand in the UK, sponsorship to work in the UK is a possibility, speak to your consultant if you’re interested.
